R.C.A.P: What is it? Some fancy radio station's call letters? A bird? A plane? Related to asdf? No. None of these. R.C.A.P isn't just letters of the alphabet, it's Right Click Abuse Prevention. There are millions of sites across the World Wide Web, and hundreds upon thousands use graphics that have been taken from other's sites without their permission. How much is it to ask to put a simple link back? What cheap thrill could you get from people e-mailing you with congratulatory remarks about how great your pirated graphics look? It would be much more of a feeling if you had created the graphics yourself, or honestly given credit. If you think that because you give credit, people won't like your site, you're wrong. I've seen sites that have graphics from others, and I have sent them e-mails stating how wonderful their site looked because of the way they used the graphics to enhance the content. Remember, it's not the pretty pictures and neat Java apps that make the site, it's the content.

Because of the numerous plagiarists who are going around and snatching the works of others, there are reports such as this one. If it weren't for the individuals who are stealing bandwidth, not respecting online copyrights, and right-clicking everything that they want for their site, the web would be a much more peaceful place. Those of us who do create our own art, don't be let down. We will rise above the dishonest and untruthful. R.C.A.P. was created to help prevent those who abuse the privilege of right-clicking. Hence the title, Right Click Abuse Prevention.  Hopefully, the joined forces of such programs will be able to eliminate those who do steal the art that dazzles the senses of web-surfers everywhere.

Many pages are completely unoriginal, meaning that not only are graphics stolen, but so are background MIDI's, HTML code, content, design, and layout ideas. This is very unfair to all the hard-working, patient people who did take the time to create the code, think up the ideas, plan the layout, come up with the literary work, and write the music for their page. Of course, there are some Clip Art galleries that offer all of their graphics to those who choose to take them for nothing in return, but the least you could do is put a simple text link to the gallery. It's not like there are just machines running around providing such art to excite your senses. There are people doing this. The World Wide Web is a wonderful resource for people of all ages and all interests, so why can't we just enjoy it? lookbds.gif (9054 bytes)

webprestige.jpg (5038 bytes) Please understand that I'm not asking those of you who care to participate to completely stop right-clicking anything. Just don't abuse it. And by that, I mean don't take images without giving credit. And please don't think I'm asking for you to steal bandwidth, because that is totally out of the question. Linking to other's graphics and MIDI's wreaks havoc on their internet costs because you are taking hits off of their site, which causes their server to bill them incredible amounts of money. Besides, if they ever took their graphics off of their site, you would be stuck with a broke image. If you are someone who has taken images from another site, and you don't want to tear your site up, but you want to be fair, try to re-trace the original location of the images so that you can provide a link back. If that fails, then at least post a message stating that you are in search of the original artist, and help from the viewers of the site would be appreciated. Of course, these are the tasks that should be attempted only if you have an extremely strong desire to not redo your site, although that is the #1 recommended way to solve your lack of credit problem.

Some ways you can help this program are as follows:

*Spread the awareness by telling others about this program
*As you surf the web and see that a site that has no sign of credit given, take a moment to e-mail them and politely ask them where they obtained their graphics, and if they are aware of the hard work put in to the creation of the images. Usually they are unsure of what they have done.
*Provide links on your page to such programs as R.C.A.P., Look but don't steal, The 11th Commandment, What is Copyright?, and Web Prestige.
